Vanessa Oguamanam is the Program Manager and UX Engineer officer at WAAW Foundation. Before joining WAAW Foundation, Vanessa received her B.S in Computer Science and M.S. in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). She is currently pursuing her PhD  in Human-Centered Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology.  Between January to February 2017, Vanessa co-organized the first AWELE Academy’s “She Hacks Africa” Program, an intensive coding boot-camp for African women ages 18-30. She believes her project is worthwhile because of its contribution to empowering and advancing STEM education for African women. In its mission to ensure no one is left behind in the world of digital revolution, the African Women Engineering Leadership and Entrepreneurship (AWELE) Academy concluded its three-week intensive programming workshop for men and women in Lagos, Nigeria. The intensive workshop which held from April 24 to May 12, 2017, exposed participants to amazing world of computer programming and coding skills which includes hands-on practical knowledge on how to how to build a full stack web application using Node, Angular, Express and MongoDB, Intro to PHP and “MySQL.” Other interesting feature was the introduction to HTML, JavaScript and designing a website using WordPress. From Monday, January 23, men and women from across African countries will gather in Abuja, Nigeria, for “She Hacks Africa”, a 3-week intensive coding boot-camp organized by African Women Engineering Leadership and Entrepreneurship (AWELE) Academy. AWELE Academy has been at the forefront of empowering youth, most especially girls in technology and software programming through affordable education, quality instruction, and individualized mentorship. The “She Hacks Africa” programming workshop is designed to train participants on how to build a full stack web application using Node, Angular, Express and MongoDB.
